MIDDLE OF THE WORLD RIDE
Exploring the World’s Center: Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador
It’s a popular destination for tourists interested in the unique experience of being at the geographic center of the world, and it often includes demonstrations and experiments showcasing the equator’s unique characteristics, such as water swirling in different directions on each side of the line. Several countries around the world have tourist attractions or monuments dedicated to the equator, and one of the most famous is the “Mitad del Mundo” in Ecuador, located just north of Quito.
Pululahua/ IntiÑan/ Mitad del Mundo (You choose the departure time)
- Pululahua is a calm and isolated place close to Quito. Every afternoon the life that this cauldron has is hidden with a white coat from moisture-laden clouds that arrive from the Pacific´s coast. This is the only protected area of the country under the category of “Geobotanical Reserve”. It’s unique worldwide: an inhabited volcanic crater located very close to the equator itself. Start the day in the Pululahua volcano.
INTI ÑAN MUSEUM & MITAD DEL MUNDO
- Located close to the Equator Monument, this onsite museum features interactive exhibits on how the Incas determined the middle of the earth, plus interesting science experiments & the effects of the Coriolis force on Earth.
MITAD DEL MUNDO
- Its power lies in a universal constant: the position of the earth and how it relates to its driving force, the sun, it’s what makes this O-degree latitude a point that suggests more than just geography. It encompasses fascination with science, spirituality, knowledge, and legend.
